The CDI school library offers students a library containing more than 7,000 works of non-fiction and more than 1,500 works of fiction.

Appointment with an author

Intervention Pierre-Marie BEAUDE

Every year, the CDI school library welcomes an author into its midst. Students have thus had the pleasure of meeting, in 2004, Michel TOURNIER, Goncourt prize winner and, in 2008, Jean ROUAUD, Prix Goncourt. First-year students on the Saint Michel site were delighted to see the writer, Pierre-Marie BEAUDE, author of the novel, Archeopolis, currently being studied by Prix Gavroche pupils.

Budding writers

For teacher/librarians, the Printemps des poètes spring poetry festival week has become a key event in the cultural calendar. An occasion to meet with today's poetry players, the poets themselves and their publishers. A series of reading/writing competitions are regularly held in which students can take part some years through their club. During Press week, collège pupils can take part in the "La Meilleure bulle" departmental writing competition.

Training in documentary practices

In the firm belief that success at school and university requires a thorough command of research tools, the teacher/librarian team has set up a training course in documentary research practices. The primary targets are Collège pupils who are given a chance to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the basic tools: dictionaries, encyclopedias, manuals, Atlases, etc.. Lycée pupils attend a course in the use of the BCDI database before some of them branch out into web-based research practices.

CDI School library Events

The CDI School library contains a specific documentary collection devoted to EUROPE.
A series of meetings are also organised with European exchange and solidarity associations.

e.g.: The "Exchanges without frontiers" association seeks to forge lasting links between France and Romania.

This association offers young people three options:

  • Enter into a correspondence with a young Romanian person.
  • Take part in a competition.
  • Prepare for a trip to Romania.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions are staged to explore a subject in greater depth: Astronomy, Art and Mathematics, Health education, Second World War, Deportation in Vendée, the Cyclotron, ARRONAX, Origami... The CDI School library is also an exhibition venue for the work of students, who are keen to see their creations set off to great advantage (African masks in the visual arts, panels on Egypt in French, etc..).

Competition

Competitions are regularly organised at the collège, mainly during events such as the Lire en fête literary festival, Press week or Franco-German day.
