Brief history
1715 : Father Montfort calls on some of his brothers to help with his evangelism
1716 : Death of Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort at St Laurent sur Sèvre.
1838 : Launch of the Saint Gabriel Boarding school.
1891 : Founding of the Saint Louis de Gonzague Academy.
1895 : First edition of the Echo de St Gabriel published.
1896 : 13th February: founding of the Amicale alumni association.
1903 : Expulsion of the brothers - 200 pupils
1906 : Saint Gabriel is taken over and saved by Mr. Joseph Jousseaume, Marquis de la Bretesche.
1947 : Canonisation of Father Montfort.
1957 : Founding of the Gabrielite Hostel of La Fresnaye.
1960 : Signing of Association Contract with the French Government
1969 : 1238 pupils including 936 boarders.
1971 : 75th anniversary of the Amicale Association - 3,000 members.
1976 : Brothers leave the Mother House for La Hillière (44)
1985 : 1,850 pupils including 1,050 boarders
1988 : Institution's 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
1996 : 100th Anniversary of the Amicale Association. Visit by Pope Jean-Paul II on 19th September
